ISLAMABAD: The law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) including the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have arrested over 1,800 proclaimed offenders (POs) during the first 100 days of their campaign.
During the campaign, launched on the orders of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, computerised national identity cards (CNICs) of 769 POs were blocked and 1,139 passports blacklisted.
In a meeting, chaired by Ch Nisar here on Tuesday, it was briefed that 581 bank accounts and 826 mobile phones had been identified, which were being used by the POs.The minister directed the FIA, police and ANF to speed up the campaign against the POs and final assessment and future policy against them should be put up by the end of this month.
Ch Nisar was told that a central databank of POs had been established in coordination with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), which would be shared with the LEAs across the country.
Nisar directed the interior secretary to coordinate with chief secretaries of provinces to speed up digitalisation of land and property record in all provinces.The FIA official briefed the minister about progress into various mega corruption cases and white-collar crimes.
It was informed that challans of various mega corruption cases including Axact, AKD, Amtex scam, TDAP, EOBI, ETPB and PSO cases had been completed and submitted before the courts.The minister appreciated the FIA for completing a successful inquiry into the China-Cutting case (Amenity plots of KDA sold out and funds used for terrorism financing) and was informed that the FIA, with the coordination of NAB, successfully apprehended two individuals and recovered Rs7.5 million from an accused on voluntary basis.
About the Asghar Khan case, the minister was informed that some issues were pending because of the ongoing review petition of the case before the SCP. Ch Nisar directed the FIA to submit an interim report in the case to the SCP. Meanwhile, Ch Nisar inspected a smart police car which is equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance system and linked with the Safe City Project. The smart car has been designed and developed by the ICT Police in collaboration with a Chinese company, Huawei, to increase outreach of the Safe City Project.
