ISLAMABAD: Famous director and broadcaster Agha Nasir, who was Executive Director at Geo News, died in Islamabad on Tuesday.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held in the federal capital. Agha Nasir was one of Pakistan’s legends and among the pioneering directors and had been associated with Pakistan Television for a long time.

He was born on February 9, 1937 in Mumbai, India. He started as a broadcaster for the Pakistan Radio in 1955 and by the time television came to Pakistan in 1964 he had already made k**wn for himself as a radio writer, broadcaster and producer.

Agha Nasir had directed Pakistani ****** and worked with film stars including Waheed Murad and Talat Iqbal. Apart from direction he was also a much admired writer. His cultural pieces were very prominent and he also used to write poetry. He also contributed in the design of the logo of PTV.

Agha also produced drama ******s such as Girah and Pani Peh Naam. One of his plays Taleem-e-Balighan is considered as the one of the best stage dramas ever to have aired on state-run TV. He also received President Pride of Performance Award.

According to a**ther report, President Mam**on Hussain expressed his heartfelt condolences over the demise of broadcaster and former managing director of Pakistan Television Agha Nasir.

In a condolence message, the president prayed to Allah Almighty for salvation of the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also expressed grief over the death of broadcaster Agha Nasir. Pakistan has lost a great asset, he added. His contribution in the field of arts culture and especially in establishing Pakistan Television would be remembered for all times to come the prime minister said in his condolence message. He prayed for the eternal peace for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.

PM’s adviser on National History and Literary Heritage Division Irfan Siddiqui expressed grief over the demise of Agha Nasir. In a condolence message adviser to prime minister lauded services of late Agha Nasir in the field of broadcasting saying that in his death we have lost a great personality who would be remembered for his long association with PTV and Radio Pakistan. He also prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said in the passing away of Agha Nasir, Pakistan has lost a great creative mind. In a statement Tuesday, the minister said Agha Nasir’s contribution in the field of art, culture and especially in establishing Pakistan Television would be remembered for times to come.

The minister prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

PTV’s Chairman Ataul Haq Qasmi also expressed grief over the demise of Agha Nasir. In a condolence message, he said the services of Agha Nasir for PTV and Radio Pakistan would be remembered for long time.
