Mazor X, a New High Precision Spinal Surgery Guidance System

Mazor Robotics, a company with ******s in Orlando, Florida and Caesarea, Israel, has just shown off for the first time its Mazor X guidance system for spinal surgeries. Already cleared by the FDA, the Mazor X uses a variety of tech**logies to prepare for, perform the procedure, and verify the results.
Initially, a computer application is used to measure the spine and evaluate how things are lining up. A treatment plan is then prepared based on the results of the study. A yet to be FDA approved X-Align module simulates the anatomy and tools to be used to prepare accurate alignments, a crucial part of the overall surgical plan.
An arm mounted*to the patient’s bones is used along with a 3D optical tracking camera to guide the tools accurately to their destination.
Real-time 3D verification, a component also waiting for FDA’s green light, is used during the procedure to verify placement using X-ray fluoroscopy, visual tracking, or other imaging systems.
The system has already been used in a wide range of cases, and so has been well confirmed to work as intended in actual surgeries.
“We’ve **w got a platform that could help us be more precise, more efficient, and reduce the overall risk rate of spinal surgery,” said Dr. Isador Lieberman from Pla**, Texas, in a statement. “These tools are facilitating the plan and its execution with precision.”
