NAUSHEHRO FEROZ: Hundreds of thatched houses in 25 villages of district Naushehro Feroz and standing crops over several thousand acres were washed away when a 60-foot wide breach developed in a dyke of Nusrat Canal in the district.
Affected villagers and growers said that standing crops, houses along with valuables, as well as stocks of *****s were washed away and they were rendered homeless. Local people complained about the absence of the government support.
People have moved to safer places without any official support, they said. The administration, in an alert, had advised the people living in the low-lying areas of Kandhkot and Kashmore to move to safer places. The authorities had declared six dykes on the Indus from Guddu to Kashmore and Shikarpur as vulnerable. Locals alleged the funds released to carry out the dyke strengthening, lining and channel cleaning work were misappropriated by the officials.
