FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry standing committee on social welfare will be reactivated to further strengthen the social welfare mission of Abdul Sattar Edhi in Faisalabad, said FCCI president Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz.
Addressing a condolence reference for iconic social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi here on Monday, he paid tributes to the committed and devoted services rendered by Abdul Sattar Edhi for the abandoned, poor and have-**ts. He said that Edhi always took lead in providing relief to the affectees of various national calamities across the country. He said that despite custodian of huge assets of Rs 112 billion, Edhi proved himself as an example of simplicity, the FCCI president added. He appreciated the efforts of the FCCI for welfare of the poor. Chaudhry Muhammad Nawaz said that Edhi had also donated his cornea which was indicative of his
commitment for the welfare of the blinds, who could **t afford to get cornea transplant from their own resources. FCCI former president Abdul Qayyum Sheikh said that Edhi served the humanity without any prejudice of cast, colour or creed. He suggested that the government should present him the pride of performance award for his unmatched services in the social sector. He proposed that the FCCI should donate at least two ambulances to the Edhi Foundation to continue its mission for welfare of the ailing humanity. He said that Pakistan was a poor country and we need many personalities like Edhi to mitigate sufferings of the poor.
Haji Muhammad Aslam recommended that the government should observe July 8 as the national charity day to pay homage to Abdul Sattar Edhi. FCCI executive committee member Rana Sikandar Azam and others also spoke on the occasion.
