Depts directed to brace for monsoon, flood

MUZAFFARGARH: District Coordination ******r (DCO) Hafiz Shaukat Ali Monday directed relevant departments to make necessary arrangement to cope with feared monsoon and flood situation.

Talking to reporters at the DCO ******, the DCO said to cope with flood arrangements have been almost complete at Taunsa Barrage, Upstream and Abbas Wala (Tehsil Kot Addu). The DCO arrangements at Khan Wah and Chander Bhan of Alipur tehsil are also complete. He said according to Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and weather forecasting department, water level in River Chenab will be **rmal and a middle level flood is expected in the River Indus in next two months. The DCO said **w the water flow in the River Indus is 297,000 cusecs and it would become **rmal in few days. He said water level in the River Chenab is 32,000 cusecs. The DCO said 38 category-A and 39 category-B relief camps would be established where boats, camps, cottage and other items would be available for relief.

He said machinery has been checked and other relevant department such as health, livestock and other departments completed their arrangements.

ADC Abdul Qadir is a focal person and Control Room is established at DCO ****** with phone ** 0669200260. A media cell is also established for information about flood. To a question, the DCO said maximum level of water in River Chenab is bearable as its dykes have been built up to six feet. DPO Awais Ahmed Malik, ADCG Abdul Qadir, and AC Dr Saifullah Bhatti were also present.
