Electronic ***** Seeded with Patient’s Own Heart Cells for Advanced Monitoring, Treatment of Cardiac Conditions

At Harvard University a team of researchers has***w created a hybrid of these two tech**logies, resulting in*an electronic scaffold within which heart cells can make home. The electronic grid within the device allows for measuring of electric current passing through, and the researchers were able to*build 3D electric maps of living animal hearts. Moreover, the same grid can be used to stimulate the heart in complex ways, in its current iteration providing 64 individually controlled electrode points where current can be delivered.
Simultaneous stimulation and monitoring using dense grids seeded with patients’ own heart cells may one day allow cardiologists to offer therapy that will make existing pacemakers and other cardiac implants seem genuinely ancient.
