LANDIKOTAL: Gover**r Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Saturday most of the areas in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas have been cleared of militants and peace restored because of the sacrifices rendered by tribal people and the Pakistan Army.
The gover**r was speaking at the ground breaking ceremony of Rs220 million water supply scheme in Landikotal.
The ceremony was also attended by a number of Shinwari, Zakhakhel, Shalmani, Kukikhel and other elders of Khyber Agency.
The gover**r said the sacrifices of the tribal people for peace would be remembered forever. He said the government launched military operations after several rounds of peace talks failed. He praised tribal people’s loyalty and support for the Pakistan Army in the war against terrorism.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra offered special prayers for the departed soul of Pakistan Army’s Major Ali Jawad Changezi who lost his life while defending Pakistani border line at Torkham. He said Major Ali Jawad was a hero and all Pakistanis saluted his bravery and courage.
The gover**r an**unced Rs0.5 million for the widow of Major Ali Jawad.
The gover**r extended his good wishes to Ashraf Ghani-led Afghan government and said that Afghans were their brothers as Pakistan always supported them in difficult times.
The gover**r said that the credit for the mega water supply scheme inaugurated in Landikotal went to Political Agent Khalid Mehmood, who made hectic efforts and approved the first ever mega water supply scheme in Landikotal.
He said 80 percent of population in Landikotal would benefit from the scheme and help increase plantation and agriculture in Landikotal.
Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said all the Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan would soon be sent to Afghanistan. He said the Pakistan government was in contact with the Afghan government to voluntarily send back the Afghan refugees in the coming months. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was arranging a handsome package for those who would return to Afghanistan voluntarily.
The gover**r said that repatriation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) had already been started and the process would be completed till the end of this year.
To a question, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the fate of Fata would be decided with the consent of all tribal people.
The gover**r offered prayers for the departed soul of iconic social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi and said that he was the legend of the 21st century who served the humanity without any discrimination.
Political Agent Khalid Mehmood, Assistant Political Agent of Landikotal Rahimullah Mehsud, Assistant Political Agent of Jamrud Muhammad Arif, Senator Momeen Khan Afridi, Christian and Sikh communities representatives were also present on the occasion.
The gover**r distributed cheques among 72 people affected by militancy and last month’s Torkham clash in Khyber Agency. Each injured received Rs0.1 million while and heirs of the deceased were given Rs0.3 million.
