LAHORE: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munibur Rehman an**unced on Tuesday night that the Shawwal moon has been sighted at various places in the country and Eidul Fitr would be celebrated across Pakistan on Wednesday (today).
He made an an**uncement in this regard in Lahore, after long consultations with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee members.
An**uncing the committee decision, he said that evidence has been received from various cities including Lahore, Zhob, Makran, Shikarpur, Jahanian, Okara, and various other Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa cities.
Earlier, in a fit of anger, Mufti Munib unplugged the wire of a telephone set during the meeting of the committee when he had to face a barrage of questions about Eidul Fitr moon.
Situation got tense when the meeting for moon-sighting committee was under way on Tuesday and the media personnel, officials and citizens raised questions about the possibility of Eidul Fitr on Wednesday.
Mufti Munib, to avoid further queries concerning evidence received from different parts of the country regarding the Shawal moon, suddenly unplugged the telephone set wire and asked the media to let the committee do its work. He also asked the Aukaf Department employee to leave the place, who was recording evidence on telephone.
Mufti Munib appealed to the media persons to avoid meddling in the committee affairs, as it was a sensitive matter, concerning the faith of Muslims.
Meanwhile, talking to a TV channel, suspended member of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Abdul Qawwi said that he had received phone calls from at least three people that they have sighted the Shawwal moon.
Meanwhile, religious authorities in India and Bangladesh an**unced that Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Thursday after the Shawwal moon was **t sighted in the neighbouring countries.
