Islamabad: Despite the fact that newly constructed shopping malls are changing the traditional shopping trends in the capital city, they fail to affect the rush of Eid shopping at the famous Jinnah Super Market.

If anyone wants to enjoy the true colours of Eid activities in the capital, the best place to visit is still the Jinnah Super Market in the evenings of the last week of Ramazan. All lit up markets are full of men, women and children moving from one shop to the other in their quest to get the best deal.

“I prefer Jinnah Super because all good brands are available here and we can directly visit the required shop instead of passing though the hassle of security checks of shopping malls,” said Shaista Nazli, a house wife.

**t preferred by the shoppers because of its high prices during **rmal days, the market becomes a hub of all activities as the Eid draws closer. People from Islamabad and Rawalpindi storm the market after breaking their fast while the rush is at its peak on ‘Chand Raat’.

Among them, some are interested in genuine shopping while others prefer window shopping and having fun at a number of eateries doing brisk business these days. The famous ‘Paan’ shop and ‘Kulfi’ stall also stay busy with their **n-stop customers.

Outside the market there is usually a constant traffic jam in the evening. ** matter how much the traffic police try, they fail to keep the smooth traffic flow. Rows and rows of cars are blocked in traffic jam for hours in their effort to enter the main compound.

The car park of the main compound in addition to the new parking plazas has become insufficient as compared to the number of cars visiting the market. “Everyone tries to park the car in front of the shop instead of using the basement parking which causes traffic jams,” opined a visitor.

Some smart souls park their cars in the nearby residential areas and prefer to walk to the market. “It is a waste of time to wait for the parking place as those who come to the market stay for long hours,” said Hanif Khan, a businessman from Rawalpindi.

The busiest business places are the stalls displaying colourful bangles. The shine that comes to the eyes of girls while choosing the matching bangles adds to the glitter of these stalls. “Though prices are much higher as compared to the other parts of the city but one gets the best variety in Jinnah Market,” said Sarah Malik, a college student.

Sara said that Eid and wedding ceremonies were the only occasions when girls wear bangles otherwise their fashion is fast fading away. Her mother Samina regretted that the traditional jewellery that adds to the beauty of women is **w restricted to formal occasions only. “I think that we should be proud of our traditions and keep them alive as it is our identity,” she said. With increase in number of visitors, the other booming businesses in Jinnah Super are the fresh juice and milk shake outlets and snack bars.

Selling juices at almost the double price, for these shop owners Eid bring business days with it. “I serve more than 100 glasses of fresh juice and milk shakes per day,” said a sales boy called ‘chota’ by his master. The sitting area, loud music and especial lighting add to the excitement in Jinnah Super making it the best place to for Eid shopping.
