KARACHI: The lights at Hockey Club of Pakistan have been replaced by 144 new bulbs, which will be tested on July 8 when an exhibition match will be played, ‘The News’ has learnt.
The decision was taken by PHF president Brig Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and secretary Shahbaz Ahmed.
The PHF plans to make Karachi the hub of hockey once again and it can**t be done without colorful hockey events at night, said a PHF official.
He said that after successfully organising five-a-side tournament in Lahore, PHF had planned various event in Karachi at HCP under floodlights due to which re**vation work was being carried out at a fast speed.
The official said that 800 new seats had been installed, while 500 had been repaired at the HCP.
The PHF president might visit HCP to review the arrangements.
A**ther source said that the PHF would finalise the preparation of Pakistan’s first nine-a-side event for leading departmental teams. The nine-a-side event would offer the highest-ever prize money in the country’s hockey history, he claimed.
The PHF has attempted several times to activate the floodlights at HCP but all previous efforts failed.
The PHF would ask former Olympians and international players to participate in the exhibition match.
Roof collapses: ‘The News’ also learnt that the roof of the PHF’s president ****** at HCP has collapsed.
The PHF is re**vating the decades-old floodlights system at HCP, but it has neglected its ******s infrastructure.
It had been in a dilapidated condition for years as its plaster had broken at various places. The HCP management has kept the PHF’s president ****** closed for many months due to its dilapidated condition but did **t repair it.
A source said that a few days back the roof collapsed. He added that the ****** would have to be built anew because repair would **t suffice. HCP’s building structure is too old, which demands immediate reconstruction.
