KARACHI: Adviser to Chief Minister of Sindh for Information & Archives, Maula Bakhsh Chandio, on Sunday appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo moto action against Wapda for carrying out 16 to 18 hours of loadshedding in Sindh on a daily basis, which is a violation of human rights.
“As the federal government has turned a deaf ear to the complaints about prolonged and unbearable power loadshedding in Sindh, we appeal to the Supreme Court to take stern action against Wapda,” Chandio said in a statement.
He said that people needed uninterrupted electricity supply during Ramazan and on Eid days; therefore, the Supreme Court’s help is needed in this regard as Sindh’s whole population is in the grip of electricity loadshedding and power failures.
“In rural Sindh, 16 to 18 hours of loadshedding is being carried out by Wapda and its power distribution companies, Hesco and Sepco, while people in towns are also **t free from loadshedding mi****** as they have been compelled to face eight hours of loadshedding and sometimes more than that on a daily basis, which is **t justified. Therefore, it is the need of the hour that the apex court may take **tice of prolonged power loadshedding that causes mi****** to the people,” he said.
Chandio said that K-Electric (KE) had also increased the duration of power loadshedding across Karachi. “The KE is also bent upon sending inflated bills to the people and disconnecting power supply of those who have become victims of inflated bills,” he said.
He warned the KE to desist from sending inflated bills and from carrying out massive loadshedding otherwise a stern action would be taken against it by the authorities concerned. The adviser asked the people to register FIRs if anyone in their family dies due to loadshedding, while complaints should also be submitted against Wapda and KE for unjustified power loadshedding, power failures and inflated bills with the federal and Sindh Ombudsmen.
