Outpatient departments and main operation theatres at the three teaching hospital in town including Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Holy Family Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital would remain closed from Tuesday to Friday in connection with Eidul Fitr holidays.
However, accident and emergency departments of the allied hospitals along with indoor patient departments would operate as per routine during Eid holidays.
The administrations of the allied hospitals claimed to have made necessary arrangements to cater to the needs of patients reaching the hospitals in emergency during the holidays from July 5 to July 8.
The new patients would be received at the accident and emergency departments of the allied hospitals during the holidays. The administrations of the allied hospitals have also taken necessary measures to strengthen emergency departments during the holidays as OPDs would **t be operational.
The three teaching hospitals have made arrangements to manage at least 300 to 400 additional patients as compared to routine influx at their emergency departments in case of an emergency in town during Eid holidays.
Duty rosters of the staff including doctors, nurses and paramedics for Eid holidays have already been prepared and distributed and the hospital’s performance during Eid holidays would remain unaffected and the OPD patients would be entertained at the accident and emergency departments round the clock, said Medical Superintendent at BBH Dr. Asif Qadir Mir while talking to ‘The News’ on Sunday.
It is important that during Eid holidays, the allied hospitals receive significantly greater number of patients at their emergency departments as compared to routine because most of the private hospitals and clinics in town do **t offer their services during Eid holidays, particularly on the first and second day of Eid.
Indoor patient department and emergency department at the BBH would operate as per routine and the staff at operation theatre at the emergency department would remain available to patients round the clock during Eid holidays, said Dr. Mir.
He said that senior registrar level doctors would be available to patients in the hospital while consultants, Assistant Professors and above, would be on call. He added the same criterion would be followed by other two teaching hospitals.
He added that under disaster management plan, the hospital has made arrangements to cater to the needs of 70 to 100 patients at once at the emergency department in case of, God forbid, any bigger emergency.
