PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak directed the authorities concerned to ensure the provision of staff and machinery in all the hospitals to provide health services to the common man.
An official handout said that he was speaking at meeting at the Health Department here.
Senior Minister for Health Shahram Tarakai, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Azam Khan, administrative secretaries of concerned departments and others attended the meeting.
The chief minister directed the authorities to ensure the availability of staff and machinery in hospitals as he would soon visit the health facilities to check service delivery.
He also ordered the submission of the report about the creation of 3,800 positions of doctors. The meeting was briefed about the current status of key actions in health department. The meeting was told that initiatives were underway to overcome the shortage of staff and machinery in hospitals.
It was told that 337 doctors had been recruited through the Public Service Commission while the services of 77 contractual doctors were regularised. Moreover, 1,069 medical ******rs and 62 positions of dental surgeons had also been advertised by the Public Service Commission.
While selection of 1,100 medical ******rs on ad hoc basis was in progress and merit list was being compiled. On the other hand, 132 positions of nurses have also been filled while 277 vacant positions of nurses have been re-advertised.
The meeting was also told that ‘Health Insurance Scheme’ was already operational in four districts while revised PC-1 had been submitted with total cost of Rs5.4 billion about the extension of the scheme to 24 districts. The meeting also approved the extension of health cards for the civil servants.
