PTI refuses to tender apology, forms committee to probe incident

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has demanded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan immediately apologise to Maryam Nawaz for levelling a**ther false allegation against the PML-N.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also termed Imran’s attitude as irresponsible and asked the PTI leader to seek an apology from Maryam Nawaz.

On the other hand, refusing to apologise over the allegations levelled against Maryam Nawaz Sharif by Dr Uzma, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan, the PTI said it would first probe the incident and trace the elements involved in feeding such information to Uzma whose vehicle was hit by a convoy.

“A person who jumps the gun without probing facts has ** moral authority to continue politics or lead a political party” said Pervaiz Rasheed while asking Imran Khan to apologise to Maryam and quit politics. “Once again, Imran had indulged himself in the politics of allegations and like the past all his allegations proven wrong,’’ he added.

He said that during the container episode, Imran Khan continued to level false allegations, some time raising a hue and cry over ‘35 punctures’, some time over the victory speech of Nawaz Sharif. “In reality, Imran has always backed out of his own commitments and promises which he had made to the nation or his own party. Imran Khan’s anti-corruption slogan was well exposed in KP, a province where his own party is in power as the head of an anti-corruption body was made OSD, because he was busy exposing the corrupt deeds of the ruling party members,’’ he added. He said Imran Khan, who used to make tall claims of merit and justice wasn’t able to conduct polls within his own party just because most of members in the PTI themselves clinched wins in party elections through rigging.

Senator Pervaiz Rasheed further stated that if Imran Khan wanted to stage a sit-in, it must be in Peshawar which was suffering the most in Pakistan in all aspects, particularly corruption and governance or he must gather his party members outside Bani Gala to protest against the corrupt practices of the KP government.

He added Imran must correct himself and put his own house in order and first practice himself what he was preaching to others. He also asked Imran whether he would join hands with a person whose party member’s squad was involved in misbehaving with his sister.

On the other hand, PTI leaders said that they would continue to oppose the VIP culture and behaviour of police with citizens which once again became obvious on Friday.

Talking to The News, Sumsam Bokhari, the newly appointed Secretary Information of Punjab, stated that the party held Maryam Nawaz Sharif in great esteem but its stance against the VIP culture would remain unchanged. He stated that whatever Dr Uzma had stated in protest after her vehicle was hit by a protocol vehicle was based on the statements of the policemen who were part of that convoy. However, he said the PTI had constituted a committee to probe who fed the information to Dr Uzma and would an**unce its future line of action after the findings of the committee. PTI spokesman Naeem ul Haq said the party had only criticised the VIP culture and the criticism wasn’t Maryam-specific.

Meanwhile, DIG Operations Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf has denied that any Punjab police personnel was involved in misbehaving with Dr Uzma. However, he said if any compliant was lodged in written, action would be taken as per the rules.

Dr Uzma on Friday alleged that a vehicle from the protocol of Mryam Nawaz had hit her car but later, her allegations proved wrong as it was the vehicle from the convoy of the Azad Jammu Kashmir president, who had come to offer condolences to a PPP member in Model Town.
