ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to extend study leave of a female ******r who is pursuing her PhD degree in Korea and needs two more years to complete her degree but the CAA is reluctant to grant her further leave, documents reveal.
The prime minister had to intervene when the lady ******r requested him as the CAA had only approved three years leave for her PhD and she needed two more years without pay to complete her degree from Seoul.
Details reveal that one Asia Sadiq, employee of CAA, Islamabad Airport, applied for ex-Pakistan leave for five years in 2013 but was granted only three years leave by
the CAA. **w that the lady, who was studying on self-finance basis, had earned scholarship which has waived her 60 percent tuition fee as well, had applied for extension in her study leave but instead of allowing her to complete her degree, she was issued show-cause **tice by the CAA.
Therefore, she had to k**ck the doors of the PM Secretariat. The PM’s Public Affairs and Grievance Wing in its letter dated June 15 to the director general CAA has written that the PM has seen the application of Asia Sadiq and has observed that the applicant proceeded to pursue her PhD programme with the permission of the competent authority.
“She has **t completed the said programme and needs extension in her leave without pay for further two years for the purpose. The Pakistan embassy in Seoul, Korea has also endorsed the request for extension in leave to enable the applicant to complete her PhD programme and this case does **t have any financial implication on the government of Pakistan.
Under the circumstances, the competent authority may consider request of the applicant most favourably,” the letter states. The PM ****** has also asked the DG CAA to take further necessary action on the application and report may be furnished to the PM ****** for the information of the prime minister.
