LAHORE

Hot and humid weather persisted in the provincial capital on Thursday while MET ****** predicted widespread rains during the first four days of July, from Friday to Monday.

Met officials warned that heavy downpour might generate urban flooding in big cities and flash flooding in vulnerable areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Saturday to Monday. They said all the authorities concerned were advised to remain alert during the period.

According to the Met ******, strong monsoon currents were likely to penetrate upper parts of the country in the next 48 hours. They said a fresh westerly wave was also expected to approach upper parts of the country on Saturday.

They predicted widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds in Islamabad and Upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions from Saturday to Monday. Scattered rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in central and South Punjab, including Multan, Sahiwal, DG Khan and Bahawalpur divisions during the period, they added.

For KP, the Met officials predicted widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan divisions from Saturday to Monday.

For Kashmir, MET ****** predicted widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur and Poonch divisions from Saturday to Monday.

For FATA, Met ****** predicted widespread rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls accompanied by strong gusty winds in Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, **rth and South Agencies from Saturday to Monday.

MET ****** warned that monsoon rain coupled with glacier-melt water might result in outburst of some glacial lakes in Chitral, Gilgit, Ghizer and Shigar areas.

In Lahore, on Thursday humidity level was 52 percent while maximum temperature was 38C. Rain-thundershower with gusty winds occurred at scattered places in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Quetta, Malakand divisions and FATA.
