Says Federation, provinces deem apex court decisions weak; govts believe their decisions can’t be challenged; they will be brought to 21st Century from PCO era

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has observed that court orders are **t being implemented and are ig**red at the federal and provincial levels. However, the law will take its course come what may.

The apex court sought satellite images both from the 2013 record and the current in a suo motu case pertaining to the felling of trees and quarrying of hills on Wednesday.

While hearing the case, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked that the government was still living in the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) era. He said the governments at the federal and provincial levels considered that their decisions could **t be challenged but they could be proved wrong.

He maintained that court orders and decisions were **t being implemented as the federation and provinces deemed court verdicts weak. But it should be clear that they would bring the government from the PCO era to the 21st Century, he said.

The court sought the current and old satellite pictures of the Margalla Hills National Park.

Justice Saeed remarked, “We will give a verdict after seeing pictures of what has to be done with the responsible persons.”

The court summoned the respective DPOs, SPs, SHOs of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the member environment of the CDA at the next hearing.

Earlier this month, the chief justice of Pakistan barred the use of explosives by stone crushers in the hills stating that the protection of environment was their responsibility.

*****s had appeared in houses built relatively near to the hills, he said. The case was adjourned till July 20.
