Sharjeel Memon plea
The Sindh High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of a petition filed by former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon against inquiries of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against him and the subsequent inclusion of his name in the Exit Control List.
The Pakistan People’s Party leader has been living in self-exile in London since the launching of a *****down against politicians and bureaucrats for corruption by the federal agencies. He submitted in court through his attorney, Mazhar Hussain Pitafi, that he came to k**w through the media that NAB had initiated an inquiry against him on charges of corruption allegedly committed during his tenure as information minister.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the minister was neither involved in corrupt practices **r had he ever misused his power during his stint as a minister of the provincial government.
The former minister submitted through his counsel that attempts were being made to implicate him in fake inquires for offences he had **t committed and sought protection against any coercive action. He requested the court to restrain NAB from arresting him in connection with any inquiry or taking any coercive action against him.
The bureau, however, submitted in its reply to the court that the former information minister was required in corruption inquiries of embezzlement of billions of rupees in his department. It was said that NAB had sufficient evidence in the matter and the former minister could be interrogated or charged on his arrival in the country.
