Eight cops held as murder accused escapes from lock-up

GUJRANWALA: Civil Lines police arrested eight policemen after a murder accused succeeded to escape from the judicial lockup here on Saturday. Accused Usman was involved in a murder and illicit arms case registered with Aroop police. On the day of the incident, the accused was brought to the session court by the district jail officials in a prisoners van for hearing. When recounting of the prisoners was done before departure from the session court to the jail, it was revealed that accused Usman was missing. On information SP City Nadeem Khokhar reached the spot and ordered arrest of eight police officials, who were appointed at the judicial lockup. Those arrested include Inspector Muhammad Akram, Constables Taqi Raza, Muhammad Akmal, Tahir Iqbal, Nasir Mehmood, Amir Shahzad, Shahid Iqbal and Naseem Akhtar. Civil Lines police have registered a case and started investigation.
