The UK has voted to leave the European Union after a historic referendum. There were strong geographical trends in voting for leave or remain, and we mapped them… brick by brick.
Polls showed leave and remain were neck-and-neck going into the vote. But poll trackers and bookmakers put the odds on remain, so many people were shocked when the leave side won 52% to 48%.
As the results were reported overnight, the leave campaign was winning by bigger margins than expected in some areas. The votes for remain in heavily populated London weren’t e**ugh to overtake the leave votes. Read more...
