PESHAWAR: Enraged residents of Bashirabad locality on Friday took to the roads against unan**unced and hours-long loadshedding and demanded of the authorities concerned to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the area.
The protest led by nazim Nadeem, deputy nazim Lal Said, councilors **or Taj and Siddique of the neighbourhood-14 in Union Council-V gathered at the Bshirabad Square and marched towards Wapda ******.
They complained of more than eight hours unan**unced and unscheduled power outages as well as low voltage in the area. “Despite the fact that there are ** line losses in the area and the consumers pay their utility bills on time, they are subjected to incessant and unrelenting power outages,” they lamented.
They warned the Wapda officials of a**ther massive protest if their demand of uninterrupted power supply was **t met.Meanwhile, reacting to the protest organised by the residents of Bashirabad and adjacent areas against loadshedding, the Pesco spokesperson said that ** additional or unscheduled loadshedding was being carried out anywhere in the province.
In a statement issued here Friday, a spokesman for the entity said that keeping in view the severe over-loading and frequent tripping, the Pesco had decided to bifurcate Bashirabad feeder into two, Bashirabad-I and Bashirabad-II.
The residents of Bashirabad-II feeder, he said, staged a protest to demand reduction in duration of loadshedding on the feeder. “There is four hours loadshedding on Bashirabad-I feeder and six hours loadshedding on Bashirabad-II feeder. **w the people of Bashirabad-II demanded to equalise the loadshedding on both feeders. The chief executive Pesco took immediate action and directed chief engineer operation to negotiate with the protesters,” the spokesman said.
He said that on the directives of chief engineer operation Mohammad Iqbal Marwat and other senior Pesco’s ******rs negotiated with them and asked them to remove illegal connectionsand install meters properly.
The officials assured that they would be given relief in loadshedding and would be provided other facilities as well if they ******* kundas and installed meters. Also, a committee was constituted in this regard to facilitate the consumers and would submit its report within three days.After the negotiation with Pesco’s high ******rs, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
