PTI chief rules out martial law, but sees govt’s fall; ready to stand with Bilawal on container against corruption; says PM k**ws he can’t survive if right ToRs are set; speaks in Geo programme Capital Talk

LAHORE: PTI Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be challenged in the Election Commission, Supreme Court, parliament, as well as on the streets.

Speaking in a special interview in Geo News programme Capital Talk with Hamid Mir, he ruled out the chances of martial law, saying it was Nawaz who was threatening democracy. Imran told Mir: “We would try to reach a consensus on the terms of reference (ToRs).” He maintained that forming a commission on the government’s proposed ToRs would be futile as those terms aimed at salvaging Nawaz who knew he won’t be able to escape accountability if appropriate ToRs were made the basis of such an inquiry.

Imran offered inclusion of his name with Nawaz’s in the ToRs, saying if the prime minister’s “crimes” were **t fixed, the corruption problem would never be tackled. The PTI chief said he was **t scared of the ToRs, but why Nawaz was. Imran said he would prove that he bought a flat in London with his legitimate money, the Sharif family won’t be able to prove how the money was sent offshore.

Imran alleged that Nawaz didn’t have the legitimate money to buy the flats in London as it never figured up in the income tax returns. Imran sounded confident in predicting that this time the government would **t survive, and said he could stand with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on a container. However, he said, the best thing the government should do is calling snap elections.

He said the PML-N had missed an opportunity to save the government from collapse. It could install a new prime minister when Nawaz went abroad for treatment. Imran said ** country could be run without a prime minister beyond four weeks. “What kind of democracy is this where Maryam Nawaz was passing orders from the PM’s House and Hamza calls the shots when Shahbaz Sharif is abroad,” he wondered.
