Death of infants in hospitals
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned the Balochistan chief secretary in a suo moto case regarding deplorable condition of hospitals and death of infants due to **n-availability of medicines in the province.
Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali the other day had taken suo moto **tice of poor condition of Sandeman Hospital in Quetta and the facilities being provided to patients there. The chief justice had taken **tice on a report submitted through the Balochistan High Court registrar.
On Tuesday, a three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, resumed hearing in the matter. Additional Advocate General (AAG) Balochistan Azam Swati informed the court that they were **t getting medicines from the federal and any province therefore it has become difficult to save children’s lives.
The chief justice asked Additional Attorney General Rana Waqar and the Balochistan AAG why medicines were **t being provided to patients due to which children were dying. Rana Waqar, however, informed that the medicines were being supplied to Balochistan from the Punjab province.
Azam Swati contended that the province was **t getting medicines therefore it had become difficult to save children’s lives. The chief justice observed that the provincial authorities should have arranged medicines from different sources.
Justice Jamali questioned as to why the secretary health had **t appeared before the court. Azam Swati told the court that health secretary was abroad. Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing till next Monday.
