Islamabad: Forest fires broke out at three different places on Margalla Hills on Tuesday morning which continued the whole day and burnt bushes and greenery stretched over a large area.
According to sources in the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the fire erupted at two places at Pir Sohawa and at one place on the Bhara Kahu range. The fire at Pir Sohawa was visible from Jinnah Avenue and other nearby areas after sunset, whereas it was extinguished within a few hours in the Bhara Kahu range.
The two fires near Pir Sohawa started soon after sunrise at around 5 a.m. and 5.30 a.m. respectively. “The workers of the CDA Environment Wing remained busy in controlling fire by adopting bush-beating," a CDA official said.
The official said ** damage was caused to trees and it were only bushes which were burnt due to fire. “Usually, fire-fighters use traditional methods to control fire as the area is out of reach for the fire-brigade vehicles," he said adding still around 60 workers are busy in efforts to control last fire near Pir Sohawa.
Sources said immediate reason for sudden eruption of fires could **t be ascertained. However, one of the fires near Pir Sohawa also engulfed bushes located on private property.
