PESHAWAR: The appellate authority for election of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) on Monday set aside the Election Commissioner decision on recounting of votes on the president post and officially declared Muzammil Khan as president of the association for the year 2016-17.
The appellate authority Abdul Samad Khan Bannu allowed the appeal of the winning candidate Muzammil Khan and set aside the Election Commissioner’s decision for recounting of votes.
The counsel for the appellant, Qazi Jawad Ihsanullah, submitted that the appellant had won the PHCBA president’s election by one vote as he had secured 463 votes against 462 of his rival Khalid Mehmood.
He submitted that the official results were yet to be declared due to an appeal by the losing candidate to the Election Commissioner for recounting of votes. He requested to set aside the decision issued for recounting of votes and officially declared the winning candidates in the election. As per the official result **tified on Monday, Muzammil Khan was declared PHCBA president, Yousaf Riaz Kalil vice-president and Yousaf Ali general secretary.
