Asks C’wealth countries to invest in Pakistan; meets Canadian HC; says efforts for Afghan reconciliation to bear fruit

ISLAMABAD: President Mam**on Hussain Friday said democracy was strengthening in Pakistan and the executive, legislature and judiciary were working harmoniously.

In a meeting with Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretary General Akbar Khan, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr here, the president expressed satisfaction that the country was moving in the right direction and democracy would grow further with the passage of time. The president said democracy and good governance were essential for development and harmony in the country. The government attached great importance to ensuring human rights for all segments of society, he added.

The president said the government was striving to empower women to enable them to play their due role in progress and prosperity of the country.President Mam**on said special attention was being paid by the government to ensure equal rights for the mi**rity communities in accordance with Quaid-e-Azam’s empathic pro**uncement that all communities enjoy equal rights as Pakistanis. He said Pakistan was committed in fighting terrorism and the Zarb-e-Azb operation had been successful in restoring peace in the country and expressed the resolve that this operation would continue till elimination of the last terrorist.

President Mam**on said as a result of this operation the situation was returning to **rmality and observed that many foreign delegates and entrepreneurs were **w visiting Pakistan. He called upon investors from Commonwealth countries to take advantage of attractive investment policies in Pakistan by investing in the energy infrastructure and other sectors. He stressed the need for more exchange of delegations amongst Commonwealth countries in the education field in order to benefit from each other’s expertise and experiences. Mam**on said the China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor (CPEC) project would usher in a new era of prosperity **t only in Pakistan but also the whole region and improve connectivity between regional countries for mutual benefit.

He congratulated Akbar Khan on assuming the ****** of 7th Secretary General of CPA and hoped that he would be instrumental in strengthening Pakistan’s cooperative partnership with his organisation in the spheres of parliamentary support programmes and promoting inter-parliamentary relations amongst the Commonwealth member parliaments.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the outgoing Canadian high commissioner to Pakistan Heather Cruden, President Mam**on hoped that efforts of the quadrilateral coordination group (QCG) for reconciliation in Afghanistan would bear fruit and situation in the region would soon improve.

The president said the Operation Zarb-e-Azb had achieved 90 per cent targets and complete success would be attained soon. He said dedicated attention was being paid on the education of women and children in Pakistan and implementation of many projects was under way to empower women.

He thanked the Canadian government for extending cooperation in education projects in Pakistan and urged that Canada should consider easing visa formalities for Pakistani students interested in acquiring education there.

The president said Pakistan would welcome Canadian cooperation in projects aimed at women empowerment.Underlining the need for enhancing bilateral trade volume between the two countries, the president stated that with the operationalisation of CPEC, regional trade would grow e**rmously. The outgoing high commissioner said situation in Pakistan was improving rapidly. She had a productive and comfortable stay in Pakistan during her tenure as HC of Canada to Pakistan, she added.
