ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said Panama issue can**t be resolved through rallies or speeches and there has to be a forum to determine truth behind allegations of offshore companies.
He said the government was ready to sit with the opposition parties to develop consensus on Terms of Reference (TOR) for a transparent probe into Panama papers.
Speaking to a private television, he said Those who leaked Panama papers had clearly mentioned that these were mere allegations.
Nisar said that he had accepted a demand from Chairman of PakistanTehreek e Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to conduct inquiry intothe matter from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) but he later backtracked.
“The issue has been politicized and if FIA launches an inquiry it will **t be accepted by the opposition,” he maintained.
He said the government even offered the probe to be carried through a parliamentary committee but opposition backed out of this demand as well.
“They later demanded to form a commission under the Chief Justice of Pakistan and we agreed on that too,” Nisar added.
The minister said the inquiry was being delayed by the opposition due to their confusion.
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was the first one to react on the revelations and added the government was sincere in launching a probe into Panama leaks and that was the reason alone that a judicial commission was being discussed right from the onset.
He said the name of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was **t mentioned in papers but still he emphasized on transparent inquiry into the matter.
“Everything can be discussed and we are ready to take forward a meaningful inquiry” he added.
Replying to a question he said Sharif family never hid owning Mayfair Apartment, adding that in fact PM himself lived there and used to conduct meetings.
