PESHAWAR: Rallies were staged and events held across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas on Sunday to mark the International Labour Day.

In the provincial capital, the activists of Pakistan Workers Federation staged a demonstration outside the Gover**r’s House. Carrying placards and banners, the protesters demanded better working condition and increase in the wages. The Railway Workers Union staged a rally to mark the day. The members of the union gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club. Speaking on the occasion, the ******-bearers of the organisation urged the government to address their grievances. The labour leaders paid tributes to the Chicago martyrs.

KARAK: The United Workers Welfare Association of the Karak district chapter took out a rally to express solidarity with the Chicago labourers who sacrificed lives for rights. After the rally the labourers gathered at Sabirabad. The district president of the labourers organisation Malik Naveed and general secretary Taj Ali in speeches paid rich tributes to the labourers. The speakers said there were 50,000 labourers working in the district. They said the labourers included schoolgoing children who were working in different auto workshops instead of going to schools.

JAMRUD: The political parties and civil society organisations staged a joint rally to demand better working conditions for the labourers. Pakistan People’s Party leader Hazrat Wali asked the government to provide all rights and facilities to the working class.
