**WSHERA: A man was hit and killed by a speeding car during protest against loadhshedding here on Sunday. It was learnt that residents of the Pabbi town of the **wshera district, mostly drawn from the adjacent villages, came on roads to protest the power breakdowns. Tehsil Nazim Gohar Abbas, village councillor Niaz Ali and others were leading the protest. They were carrying banners and placards. The protesters were chanting slogans against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) and the government.
The protesters walked through various areas and blocked the Grand Trunk Road for traffic for three hours. The protest later turned into a public meeting. Speaking on the occasion, the protesters said carrying out hours-long power cuts had added to their mi******. They complained that the power cuts had affected businesses as well.
They asked the government and Pesco officials to reduce the duration of the loadshedding within 48 hours or else they would ring the power gridstation. The protest took a sad turn when a speeding car struck a protester identified as Sahib Haq. He was critically injured in the incident. The injured man was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital **wshera where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police officials arrested the car driver that calmed down the protesters. The senior cops and Pesco officials talked to the people and assured of looking into the matter. The protesters dispersed peacefully.
