Pillion-riding banned in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The deputy commissioner, under section 144 CrPC, has imposed ban on pillion-riding and unregistered motorcycles in Peshawar district. An official communiqué said that Afghan refugees would also be restricted to their camps. “Anyone found violating this order shall be proceeded against under section 188 PPC,” it said, adding, the order shall come into force forthwith and shall remain enforced for a period of 30 days.



Extortionist arrested

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department claimed to have arrested an extortionist during an action in Phandu area in the provincial capital on Friday.A press release of the CTD said one Taj Mohammad, a facilitator of the extortionists, was arrested for making calls to Mansoor, a resident of Khattako Pul, to demand Rs 1.5 billion as extortion. Other accomplices of the accused are still at large.



Judicial commission demanded to probe Layyah mishap

BAHAWALPUR: President of the Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association, Nawazish Ali Pirzada, on Friday urged the chief justices of the LHC and the Supreme Court to constitute a judicial commission to probe the Layyah mishap. Addressing a press conference, Pirzada said responsibility of the mishap should be fixed. He accused the rulers of totally ig**ring the south Punjab in terms of basic rights. He said wheat growers of the Punjab, particularly of south Punjab, were being plundered by the Food Department. Pirzada alleged there was ** medicine at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) and he had moved the LHC (Bahawalpur bench) in this regard.



Protest against gas loadshedding in TT Singh

TOBA TEK SINGH: Scores of citizens and activists of political parties on Friday staged a sit-in at the Shahbaz Chowk against gas loadshedding and the problems being faced by the citizens due to alleged inefficiency of the TMA officials. The protest was organised under the aegis of the Majlis Mufad Aama while MMA president Arif Qazi, Sunni Tehreek district ameer Maulana Munem Siddiqui, Jamiat Ahle Hadith leader Maulana Burq Tauheedi, JUI-F leaders Maulana Talha Abbasi and Maulana Mujeebur Rehman Ludhianvi, PTI leader advocate Mian Abdul Basit, Dr Saleem Ghazi, JI leader advocate Mian Arshad Javed, councillors Saeed Ahmad Tahir and Muhammad Nadeem, PAT leader Arshad Bhutta and Imran Sindhu also participated in the sit-in. The protesters in their speeches asked the government to end the gas loadshedding, make arrangements for supply of clean water and make special arrangements for cleaning of dirty roads and streets of the city.

MOSCOW: Defence ministers of Pakistan and Iran have discussed border security issues and the need for appropriate measures in this area.The bilateral talk between Kh Asif and Hossein Dehqan was held on the sidelines of the Conference on International Security in Moscow. On the occasion, Defence Minister Kh Asif underlined expansion of relations.Kh Asif said both the sides should try **t to allow radical groups to endanger security neither in borders **r inside the countries. Iran’s Brig-Gen Hossein Dehqan said Pakistan as a friendly neighbouring country can play a constructive role in coping with regional troubles.



Youth murdered by four people

PAKPATTAN: A youth was murdered here. Four people abducted Azhar Fareed of Circular Road near Old Town Hall. They took him to Chak Maday Shah where they severely beat him. Later, the accused threw him into a canal. As a result, he died. Police have registered a case.
