ISLAMABAD: The Sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis held its first meeting to discuss the problems faced by the overseas Pakistanis and subsequently solving the same.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Abdul Qayyum here at the Parliament House on Tuesday. The convener of the committee told the meeting that Pakistanis willing to go abroad for occupation are mostly trapped by fake travel agents who take away their lifetime savings. He emphasized to take such actions which improve the quality of labour and professional skills of the overseas Pakistanis. Briefing the committee, he drew attention of the members to the irregularities in visa process.
Senator Nighat Mirza told the committee that most Pakistanis imprisoned abroad faced the problem of language barrier and could **t report their cases properly. In addition to this, overseas Pakistanis living in the Middle East, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia, are also facing shortage of embassy schools.
The committee chairman suggested that vocational training centres should offer basic foreign language courses along with the education of Dos and Don’ts of the country that labourers are sent to.
Senator Aurangzeb told the committee that earlier three years visa fees for the UAE was 5K which has been increased to 7.5K while the duration has been reduced to two years. He also brought attention to the need for more spacious consulate building in the UAE.
