His name is Robert Santoli, and on Friday, he solved a puzzle with just one simple letter and an ampersand. The clue: "Places." Santoli immediately responded with "Port & Starboard."
While Santoli acted like a mad genius, the key to his success was simple: He studied.*
"There are websites that keep track of past Wheel of Fortune puzzles, so I did some research on previous weeks themed toward these things and wrote them down. The show does sometimes repeat puzzles, especially themed ones.
