Whistle Sports is becoming a major league digital player.
The New York-based digital sports media company an**unced Thursday that it has raised $20 million in ****** C funding from TEGNA Inc., NBC Sports Ventures, Sky and Emil Capital.
The companies join a handful of others — including professional sports leagues and*iHeartMedia's Bob Pittman —*in investing in Whistle Sports.*To date, the digital company has amassed $60 million.
"This round is about getting us scaled up to serve full growth size and getting profitability,"*Whistle Sports founderand CEO John West told Mashable in a phone interview following the news.*"And also to continue to sort of take advantage of the market position we have as a leader in engaging young millennial sports fans."
