http://www.medgadget.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/HowonJason300.jpgResearchers at Rutgers University are experimenting with using 3D printers to make maps of the interior of buildings for blind people to navigate with. These can contain a lot of detail and have Braille writing embedded that helps find the room or hallway one is looking for. Each room, staircase, or any other space type can have identifying textures that quickly let the user k**w what they’re touching. There’s also a legend that explains the different items on the map in Braille.

The maps are strung together in a binder, so a person using them can flip to any map needed and be able to navigate to the right spot.

The team hopes that these kinds of maps will become a new standard and be available for just about any public space or building.
