Court papers said one of the men, a 29-year-old Emirati, was arrested at Abu Dhabi Airport after landing on a flight from an unspecified Arab country. Customs ******rs searched his luggage and found a small amount of methamphe*tamine inside. “The footballer told ******rs he was taking the ***** to his colleague, the second defendant, who had asked him to bring it for him,” said prosecutors. After arresting the footballer, police summoned the second man, also Emirati. The court heard that medical tests revealed both men had consumed *****. In court, the 29-year-old defendant denied consuming and possessing crystal meth. However, he admitted using some illegal ***** and asked Chief Justice Idris bin Mansour to refer him to rehab. The second defendant also denied the charges. He said he was only using prescription medicine to lose weight. His lawyer said her client had a weight problem and also suffered from a neuro*logical illness. “As a footballer, he needed the medicine to help him lose weight,” she said. The lawyer requested her client be referred to a medical committee to establish whether the footballer’s urine or blood tests contained meth or prescription-only *****. The court papers did **t state which teams the footballers play for. However, one of the men is believed to be a former Al Dhafra player who was previously convicted for posting an offensive video online. [email protected]
