Asian-Americans split over conviction of NYPD cop who killed Akai Gurley

The conviction of a Chinese-American former New York Police ******r who shot to death an unarmed black man has spawned protests from Asian-Americans and caused a rift within their community over whether he had been targeted because of his race.
Last Saturday, some 10,000 people, mostly Chinese-Americans, demonstrated in support of Peter Liang, the 28-year-old rookie cop who shot and killed Akai Gurley, 28, in a dark stairwell of the Louis Pink Houses in East New York, Brooklyn in **vember 2014.
