Every single hoverboard — AKA self-balancing scooter — sold in the U.S. is unsafe. It doesn't matter if you paid $200 or over $1,000, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC (http://www.cpsc.gov)) said on Friday any device without UL certification (http://mashable.com/2016/02/19/hoverboards-unsafe/?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=) (**t just the charger) "poses an unreasonable risk of fire to consumers."
The current number of hoverboards with that certification is zero.

The agency publicly sent out a letter that put hoverboard manufacturers, retailers and importers on **tice. Those that don't comply could face legal action.
