Only three weeks after receiving FDA approval (http://www.medgadget.com/2015/08/dexcom-g5-mobile-bluetooth-enabled-continuous-glucose-monitor-fda-approved.html), the Dexcom G5 continuous glucose monitor (CGM) received the CE Mark allowing it to be sold in Europe. The CGM features Bluetooth connectivity that allows it to send data to a paired smartphone, which can then share it with the person’s parents or caretakers on their mobile devices. The device is currently compatible with iOS devices, including the Apple Watch, and*an Android app is also on the way.
It can worn by kids as young as two years old and has the longest continuous wear time of any*CGM on the market. In addition to helping to keep track of the latest glucose levels, the Dexcom G5 will automatically signal an alarm if glucose drops to below 55 mg/dL.
