Dubai set for 100,000 hotels by World Expo 2020

According to a recently released report by TopHotelProjects in conjunction with The Hotel Show Dubai, the city has led hospitality growth in the region for the last three years, with activity **w at an all-time high. Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) reports 65,000 rooms are available in Dubai as of 2015, with new developments expected to take that number to 100,000 by the year 2020. “A record total of 694 hotel projects (are) currently underway in the Middle East & Africa, set to add 188,817 rooms to the market over the coming years, the majority before 2020, as per TopHotelProjects’ findings,” Christine Davidson, event director of The Hotel Show Dubai said in a press statement. Dubai’s busiest year for the hospitality industry will be 2017, with 30 projects due to open to the public in the duration, including Dubai's first fully solar-powered hotel, Hotel Indigo Dubai The Sustainable City; and Dubai’s first Mandarin Oriental and Bulgari luxury hotels. The major Dubai Pearl development, a "mix of six in**vative 5-star hotels", is reportedly set to launch in early-2018, including Dubai's first MGM Grand and Bellagio hotels. The next busiest regional hotspots, in terms of active projects, include Morocco, with 46 active projects, Riyadh with 43, and Doha with 38. Of almost 700 total hotel projects in the pipeline for the Middle East and Africa region, 528 are listed as being in the pre-planning, planning and construction stages. "Hotel and leisure development, build and investment is significant and set to continue, making Dubai the perfect contract market for global suppliers and investors," Davidson added. The Hotel Show Dubai 2015 is due to be held between 28 and 30 September, 2015, at Dubai World Trade Centre.
