First U.S. Implantation of Maestro vBloc to Control Hunger Pangs

EnteroMedics, a St. Paul, Minnesota company, an**unced the first commercial implantation of the Maestro vBloc Neurometabolic Therapy system in the U.S. The device was approved by the FDA earlier this year for*for treatment of obesity, metabolic disorders, and other GI conditions.
vBloc tech**logy, as the name implies, blocks signals originating in the stomach*from reaching the brain via the vagus nerve. This prevents the patient feeling hunger pangs and will hopefully bring a sense of control to many on the front lines of the obesity epidemic.
The Maestro is approved for adults with a “BMI of 40 to 45 kg/m2 or a BMI of 35 to 39.9 kg/m2 with a related health condition such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels, and who have tried to lose weight in a supervised weight management program within the past five years,” according to EnteroMedics.
