Device Quantifies Protein in Urine at Point of Care

Bio Na** Consulting, a spin-off of Imperial College London and University College London, has developed a*device that may soon be used by clinicians to*measure the amount of protein in urine. This may turn out to be a new way to test for kidney disease at the point of care, a process which currently requires a clinical lab.
The device is a quantitative electrochemical lateral flow assay (QELFA), essentially a modification of at-home pregnancy tests. It’s quite tiny and has an even tinier readout screen that shows the concentration of protein and it sounds like there’s a wireless chip inside to quickly send the results to a hospital electronic medical record system.
The company just won the Smart Award from In**vate UK that will help finalize the development and testing of the device.
