United Nations, Feb 3 (IANS) The United Nations said here Monday that a total of 1,375 Iraqis were killed and a**ther 2,240 were wounded in acts of terrorism and violence in January, Xinhua reported. Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesman, made the statement at a daily news briefing here, citing latest casualty figures released by the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). "The number of civilians killed was 790 and the number of civilians injured, 1,469," Dujarric said. "Baghdad was the worst impacted Gover**rate, with 1,014 civilian casualties." The security situation in Iraq has drastically deteriorated since June, when bloody clashes broke out between Iraqi security forces and the Islamic State (IS) militants.
