Allison McGevna of Inside Allie's World On Creating A Look-Great Holiday Party Outfit
Welcome Allison McGevna, 31, of Inside Allie’s World (http://www.insidealliesworld.com/), who is joining us as our resident curvy-girl style blogger. She was featured in the December/January issue of PEOPLE StyleWatch and contributes her thoughts on finding the perfect outfit to the site each week. This week, she gives us insight on styling a trendy (and flattering!) holiday party look. (And if her items are sold out, we’ve linked to similar styles below — happy shopping!)

With the holidays coming up, I wanted to create a cocktail party look that felt festive, trendy and appropriate. Those three elements are always key. I decided to go with a soft palette (curvy girls — you can wear white, just use it strategically) and to create a fit-and-flare silhouette with a Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s top (similar style (http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1847361/jennifer-lopez-sequin-boucle-sweater-womens-plus-size.jsp)), an H&M skirt (similar style (http://www.eloquii.com/full-pleated-satin-midi/1191173.html?ppid=c3&start=3&cgid=skirts&dwvar_1191173_colorCode=7)) and a White House/Black Market belt (similar style (http://www.ltcaccessories.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=99245¤cy=USD&language=en)).
The top is a sweater-like material with a bit of stretch. It’s the perfect winter top because it’s warm but **t too thick and shows my shape. The neckline and sleeve length are just right, revealing a hint of skin. When you’re more covered up, find a way to show a pop of skin — you never want to go too demure, which can read as matronly. The more volumi**us skirt gives the fitted top balance and glides over my hips. If you want to play around with wearing white but aren’t sure where to begin, try starting with a looser silhouette like this. The cut looks good on any figure. The just-below-the-knee length reads appropriate (and also feels more practical for colder weather). Balance the longer length with a great pair of heels (more on my shoes below!).

As I’ve shared with you guys, I’m an hourglass (I’m a size 14 in tops and a 16 in pants), so I love showing off my smallest point: my waistline. The best way to do that? A great belt! Skinny belts tend **t to do much to accent my figure, so I go for thicker options. Plus, thicker belts have a better chance of staying put. There’s **thing I hate more than a belt slowly inching its way up my torso until it’s sitting at my bust. I love that this metallic silver option stands out a bit against the soft color palette. I wanted something that felt celebratory!
I chose a fresh white Simply Be clutch (http://www.simplybe.com/bags/raffia-clutch-bag/invt/nl675tj) that matched my skirt, and decided to mix things up a bit with bright red Stella McCartney pumps (similar style (http://www.mytheresa.com/en-us/agnes-satin-pumps.html?)). Like the metallic belt, these shoes add a fun feel to the outfit. It’s the holidays, after all — your look should feel party-ready!
