In a historic decision for the taxpayers, tax advocates and chartered accountants of Varanasi and the entire Purvanchal, the central government has announced to soon upgrade the circuit bench of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) based in Varanasi as a ‘permanent bench’. This announcement was made by the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal during the silver jubilee celebrations of ITAT in Lucknow on Sunday. Remove ads just read news In this feature, representing Varanasi, Varanasi ITAT Bar Association President Arvind Shukla, Income Tax Bar Association, Varanasi President Ashutosh Bhardwaj and former presidents Om Prakash Shukla and Asim Zafar met the Minister and made a strong demand to convert the long pending circuit bank into a permanent bank, underlining the historical and administrative importance of Varanasi. As this demand is completely justified, the Minister announced the adoption of a permanent ITAT bench in Varanasi from the dais itself. The establishment of a permanent bench will ensure regular hearing of income tax appeals, which will enable speedy and effective disposal of pending cases. Hence, taxpayers and tax experts from many nearby districts including Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj will not have to make repeated trips to Prayagraj and Lucknow for hearing, which will save considerable time and money. Addressing the function, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly working to make the tax system simpler, more transparent and taxpayer-friendly. He said that considering the special importance of Varanasi, it was necessary to establish a permanent ITAT bench there, so that common tax payers should not face unnecessary difficulties in getting justice. This announcement was widely welcomed by the tax payers, tax experts, tax lawyers and chartered accountants and business fraternity of the entire Purvanchal region including Varanasi. Local bar associations described it as an important milestone in the judicial history of Varanasi and said that it will not only strengthen the judicial system but also promote the favorable environment for business and investment in the area. The establishment of a permanent ITAT bench in Varanasi will not only provide relief to the tax payers but this decision will also play an important role in the economic development of the region.
