This funding surge follows the Supreme Court&#8217;s scrapping of the Electoral Bonds scheme, which has shifted the landscape of political funding in India. The contribution received by the ruling party in 2024-25, the year of Lok Sabha elections, is much more than \u20b94,000 crore it received in 2023-24, according to the contribution reports submitted by political parties to the Election Commission of India. The BJP&#8217;s contribution is about 12 times the collection of the Congress party, which received \u20b9522 crore in the same year. The Congress received \u20b91,130 crore as political funding in 2023-2024. Electoral Trust is established by various companies to distribute the political parties&#8217; contributions. Thirteen of the 19 electoral trusts have so far submitted the reports to the poll panel for the year 2024-2025. An electoral trust is mandated to distribute at least 95% of the contributions to parties that received them in a fiscal. The contribution reports available on the poll panel&#8217;s website deal with the funds received by political parties from donors who gave away more than \u20b920,000, as well as contribution reports by the Prudent electoral trust on the donations they made to political parties. According to these reports, the BJP received 85 percent of the overall political funding from these trusts in 2024-25. Prudent Trust donated \u20b92,181 cr Prudent Electoral Trust made most of the political funding, the report said. The trust donated \u20b9 2,181 crore to the BJP and \u20b9 216 crore to the Congress. Among the companies, the largest contribution to Prudent came from Elevated Avenue Realty LLP, a firm associated with Larsen &#038; Toubro, an engineering and technology conglomerate, amounting to \u20b9500 crore. The BJP received 85 percent of the overall political funding from electoral trusts in 2024-25. Progressive Electoral Trust is the second largest political funder. The trust donated \u20b9757.6 crore to the BJP and \u20b977.3 crore to the Congress.
