The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scored a landslide victory in the local elections in Arunachal Pradesh, winning the majority in the district councils and gram panchayats. Voting for local elections in the state was held on December 15. The BJP also scored a decisive victory in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections by winning 14 out of 20 wards. However, the regional party People&#8217;s Party of Arunachal (PPA) swept the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) by winning five out of eight wards, while the BJP won two and an independent candidate won the seat. The opposition Congress failed to win a single seat in both the elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the BJP&#8217;s excellent performance in the local elections. In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said that the people of Arunachal Pradesh show unwavering support for the politics of good governance. I express my gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for the affection towards BJP. He said that this further strengthens our resolve to continue working for the transformation of the state. I appreciate the BJP workers for their tireless work among the public. Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked the voters for the party&#8217;s big win. Khandu said in a statement that I am grateful to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their unwavering support and faith in the BJP. I heartily thank our dedicated party workers for their tireless efforts and dedication that made this historic victory possible. Khandu said he participated in the victory ceremony at the BJP office in Itanagar along with state party president Kaling Moyong, Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso and party workers, where newly elected councilors and Zilla Parishad members of Itanagar-Naharlagun were felicitated. According to the final results announced by the SEC late on Sunday evening, the BJP won 170 out of 245 Zilla Parishad seats, including 59 uncontested seats. With this, BJP has established its clear dominance in local bodies at the district level.
