Jakarta – Minister of Internal Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian emphasized the state’s presence through the construction of permanent housing (yacht) for residents affected by the disaster in Sibolga City, North Sumatra (North Sumatra). This move is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s order to speed up treatment and rehabilitation for residents who lost their homes. “I and Mr. Ara Sirait, minister of housing for residential areas, came here, it is indeed an order from the president that we must work immediately to help the community,” Tito said in his statement on Sunday (21\/12\/2025). He conveyed this on Sunday (21\/12) when he attended the groundbreaking event (the laying of the first stone) for the construction of the housing complex in the Sibolga Sports Arena (GOR) area, North Sumatra, together with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait. This disaster not only caused injuries and deaths, but also impacted residential areas, with conditions ranging from slightly damaged to heavily damaged, with some even missing. To expedite the distribution of aid, he asked the regional government (Pemda) to immediately collect detailed data on affected residents, including for houses in the lightly damaged and moderately damaged categories. “Now, for those with light to moderate damage, I ask the mayor, the regent, the governor, please immediately register the people and their addresses, by name by address, so that compensation can be given immediately by the government, the central government,” Tito stressed. Meanwhile, regarding houses that were badly damaged and lost, he emphasized that it is the state’s responsibility to rebuild them through a mutual cooperation scheme. “And then it is the state’s responsibility to restore those that are badly damaged and missing,” said Tito. For the City of Sibolga, the construction of the housing complex will be carried out in phases and continuously. In the initial stage, as many as 200 shelter units will be built as part of post-disaster recovery efforts. Apart from that, Tito also appreciated the Sibolga City Government and the Sibolga City Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) for their support in providing regional asset land and speeding up the development approval process. “Well, so I thank you. The Mayor conveyed that this is a land asset that belongs to the city government, and the procedure must be approved by the DPRD. I would like to express my thanks to the Chairman and all members of the DPRD who worked very quickly,” he concluded. The laying of the first stone marked the beginning of the construction of shelters for residents affected by severe damage or loss of their homes. This program is part of non-governmental support coordinated by the Ministry of PKP, with an initial goal of building 2,600 shelter units in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra as part of post-disaster recovery.
