Women aged 50 and over are invited for a breast cancer check every three years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">The NHS explained that this could detect the disease \u201cbefore\u201d you notice any symptoms. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK, with around 56,900 new diagnoses made every year, according to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/health-professional\/cancer-statistics\/statistics-by-cancer-type\/breast-cancer#breastcs2\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\">Cancer Research UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">It is also the fourth most common cause of cancer death, accounting for around 11,200 deaths annually. Although it is not common in men, it is still possible for them to develop the disease, with around 390 men diagnosed every year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">In a post made to social media platform X, the NHS said:<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/service-search\/other-health-services\/breast-screening-services\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\">Regular breast screening<\/a> can find breast cancer before you feel it or notice any symptoms. If you think you should have breast screening, but you are not invited automatically by the time you are 53, contact your local breast screening service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">NHS breast screening uses X-rays, called mammograms, to look for cancers that are \u201ctoo small\u201d to see or feel. On the<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/breast-cancer-in-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" NHS websiteLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\"> NHS website<\/a>it advises that if you are 71 or over, you will not automatically be invited for breast screening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">However, you can still have breast screening every three years if you want to. You will need to call your local breast screening service to ask for an appointment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">If you\u2019re a trans man, trans woman or are non-binary, how you are invited will depend on the gender you are registered with at a GP.
