Sherghati assembly seat of Bihar falls in Gaya district. Gaya in India has its own distinctive history. Gaya is mainly known for saving ancestors and Pind Daan as the footprints of Lord Vishnu are believed to be present in the Vishnu Pad temple here. In addition, it is also an important pilgrimage site for Buddhism, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment at Bodhgaya. Along with religious importance, Gaya is also known for its traditional handicrafts. Buddhism actually originated in Bihar and spread all over the world due to the teachings of the Buddha, his example of simple lifestyle and extreme compassion towards every living being.
